**Abstract: Voices for Change: Bridging Cultures in Suicide Prevention**
This presentation will explore the essential role of cultural nuances and key considerations in engaging the African-Australian community within the suicide prevention space. Recent research underscores the necessity of culturally responsive and sensitive approaches to effectively prevent suicide and support those affected, particularly as African-Australians face significant barriers in accessing mental health services, as identified by the Australian Human Rights Commission.
We will address the unique challenges that hinder meaningful engagement and highlight opportunities for solutions and improvements in suicide prevention strategies. By fostering collaboration between African-Australian community-led organizations and mainstream intervention services, we can develop practices that resonate with cultural identities and experiences.
The presentation aims to emphasize the importance of integrating evidence-based strategies into outreach and support efforts. By doing so, we can create a more effective prevention framework that values every voice and empowers communities, ultimately paving the way for impactful change in the mental health landscape. Together, we can work towards a future that not only prevents suicide but also compassionately supports those affected by it.
