Suicide risk doesn’t always present in ways we expect. Many individuals experiencing suicidal ideation are functioning, achieving, and even appearing happy on the surface, challenging long-held stereotypes about what distress and vulnerability look like. In this keynote, alongside contemporary research highlighting the complexity, variability, and concealment of suicidal thoughts, Dr Sharp (sometimes known as Dr Happy!) will share his own personal lived experiences of suicide and suicidal ideation. By weaving together science and story, this session aims to reframe how we understand risk and invite a more nuanced, compassionate, and effective approach to identification, conversation, and support.
