Elahe Derakhshan
I am a third-year PhD candidate at the Centre for Mental Health and Community Wellbeing at the University of Melbourne. I was born and raised in Iran, and have practiced as a psychologist for 3 years with clients struggling with suicide, depression, grief, and anxiety disorders. During my master’s studies at Shahid Beheshti University of Tehran, Iran, we explored Iranian suicide loss survivors suicide bereavement experiences. My own lived experience, supporting bereaved clients, coupled with the findings of our work with other suicide loss survivors are the motivations for being in this field. No one should be left feeling alone, not understood, or unable to access appropriate care following such a life-altering experience.
