Chris Bowden

Dr. Chris Bowden is a suicide loss lived experience researcher, senior lecturer, and Director of Educational Psychology Programmes at Te Herenga Waka / Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He has a broad interest in suicide research with a focus on suicide in young people and men, suicide bereavement and postvention. His PhD was a phenomenological study of the lived experience of suicide bereavement in young men. He developed the Waves psychoeducational programme for adults bereaved by suicide and has worked in suicide prevention and postvention education, delivering professional development and training for many years. Chris is the Academic Director of MATES in Construction, New Zealand, helping guide research, evaluation and the development of MATES. Chris is a praca-demic who is passionate about bringing together research and lived experience to the design, implementation and evaluation of suicide prevention and postvention initiatives, ensuring they are effective, responsive to needs and transformative. He is also passionate about trauma-transformative approaches and teaches in the area of mental health, wellbeing and counselling.
