Dan Reidenberg

Dan is the Founder of Safe Online Standards, Director of Thrive, and Director of the US National Council for Suicide Prevention. He serves on the Consultant’s Roster for the World Health Organization and as an Advisor to The Carter Center for Journalism. He is Co-Chair of the Media and Suicide Task Force, is a Certified Psychological Autopsy Investigator, and serves on several national and international editorial boards. Dan has presented to over 375,000 people in 15 countries and has written 60 articles and 7 book chapters. He was a lead author of the US National Strategy for the Prevention of Suicide (2012) and National Prioritized Research Agenda (2016). He wrote the US Recommendations for Media Reporting on Suicide; for Reporting on Mass Shootings; for Blogging on Suicide; and helped develop the Media Recommendations on Bullying. He is the co-lead for the WHO’s Media Resource Guide and the WHO’s Resource for Filmmakers and conducts training of journalists globally. Dan has developed programs and conducted presentations for media, entertainment and technology companies, military and veterans, law enforcement and threat assessment teams, judicial systems, global corporations and nonprofits, national and state governments, communities, faith leaders, healthcare systems and providers, veterinarians, farmers and rural communities, educators, and suicide loss survivors. He developed an evidence-based program for schools; the world’s first online suicide peer support program; a program for the construction industry; a workplace suicide prevention program; the national Award for Excellence in Media Reporting on Suicide and the world’s only Certification for Safe Messaging program. Dan has been interviewed by ABC, CBS, CNN, FOX, NBC, CNN, Larry King, Good Morning America, Good Morning Europe, Headline News, Inside Edition, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Huffington Post, Time, Newsweek, US News, People, Rolling Stone, BBC and radio in Australia, Russia, Canada and the UK. Dan received the Service to Humanity Award, Service to Suicidology Award, as a Champion of Change by The Obama Administration. He is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World and was recognized with the prestigious Marquis Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award.
